Chinese quake spares foreigners

Cincinnati News.Net
Tuesday 13th May, 2008

No foreign casualties have been reported after the strongest quake in China in three decades jolted the southwestern province of Sichuan on Monday.

A Chinese foreign ministry spokesman has said: “We have received no report of foreign casualties so far.”

He said the ministry would promptly release such information to related embassies and consulates in China if it gets any such news.

He added the Chinese government had already contacted all foreign embassies and consulates to ask if there had been any reports of casualties of their nationals.

Noting that the quake disaster was serious, the official asked foreign journalists who wanted to go to the quake-hit area to guard against danger and contact the Information Department in case of emergency.

He said the ministry would provide as much help as possible to journalists going to the disaster area and added that relevant departments of the Chinese government would also release the latest information on the disaster and the progress of relief work.

According to Xinhua, China's official news agency, the death toll has spiralled to 12,000 after a massive 7.9 magnitude quake struck Monday afternoon in Sichuan province.

Chinese quake spares foreigners

Another test for China as a nation and her people as one people. There are enough people besides the government who have the resource to help those in need. We’ll see how this disaster will pan out. When the going gets tough, do the tough get going? Or do they just sit back and cry?

CHINA FRIENDLY TO FOREIGNERS,EVEN THE CHINESE QUAKE SPARES FOREIGNERS.

Year 2008 will be remembered for the events that lead to the solidarity of the chinese people towards their motherland. Seems like the olympic torch help ignites the first salvo of patriotism. The Chinese government’s fast responses to the disasters of the train derailment, virus infection and now the earthquake is the second salvo. Their quick actions have earned them not only their people’s admiration but globally as well.

IMMIDIATE HELP, AND NOT MONKEYING AROUND

A nation’s quick response to emergencies is one of the signs of a civilized society, and I believe in this category China should have the gold medal for its promtness in responding to this devastating earthquake, which due to the immidiate help has saved many innocent lives that were partially buried in these fallen buildings.

Alòso its leaders were immidiately in the field to take command of the rescue mission, this indicates the dedication that these leaders have for the value of human life.

I believe all civilized societies should take an example of this immidiate response that the people of China have demonstrated towards those in need.
